and is known as one of the 8 big temples of the Shilla Era. This temple possesses of numerous cultural assets (i.e. Unified Shilla Era’s buddhist image, important seal engravings of Joseon Era) with its beautiful scenery of Mt. Hwawang.
Gwallyongsa Temple’s Daewung-jeon (Main Hall where Buddha is seated) (Treasure)
Gwallyongsa Temple, 292, Okcheon-ri, Changnyeong-eup Gwallyongsa Temple’s Daewung-jeon, which relatively well-displays characteristics of the time before the mid-period of the Joseon Era by its octagon-roofed Dapo-style building, holds images of Sakyamuni, Yaksayeorae, and Amitabha. Also, the interior ceiling was made in the shape of a hash sign, and is peculiar in that the mid-section was made a floor higher.
Gwallyongsa Temple’s Yongseondae Stone Statue of Seated Buddha (Treasure)
San328, Okcheon-ri, Changnyeong-eup This is a Stone Statue of Seated Buddha in Yongseon-dae to the back of Gwallyongsa Temple, and is located on a high rock on the mountain peak. Its halo is already gone, and is thought to have been produced during the end of Unified Shilla Era. There is a tale that Yongseon-dae, meaning banyayongseon, indicates correct paths to people and grants one wish, and hence continuously sought by tourists and worshipers.
