The temple was said to have been built during the Silla Dynasty period but the exact year of construction is unknown and considering the architectural method used, it is estimated to be a small Buddhist temple built during the early Joseon Dynasty period.

The existing record says that it was one of the few structures that survived the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592 but was later damaged due to a landslide.

This temple which has an architectural form called jushimpo (a building with bracket sets only on top of the columns). It has a gambrel roof and, dividing the front facade between two columns into 3 sections, there are two fixed lattice windows on left and right and a set of hinged doors at the center.

The weaved structure of gongpo (pieces of wood inserted between a rafter and a column), the root of the double salmi (elaborate ornamental piece stacked in the bracket system) of cheomcha (bracket arms), purlins called napdori and joongdori of the crossbeams called woomiryang and the entasis of the columns show key architectural features of the early Joseon Dynasty period.
