This stone Buddha statue which sits on a pedestal with 14 beautiful lotus flower petals carved on it, is enshrined in the Gyannyongsa Temple’s Yaksajeon (Medicine Buddha Temple).
It shows the hand gesture of a medicine Buddha and the medicine bottle which has to be on the right hand seems to be lost. The lower stone pedestal shows elegant features and it seems to be the work of the Silla Dynasty period but the upper pedestal which has rather rough features seems to be the work of the Goryeo Dynasty period.
The statue itself also shows a bit rough style but it is regarded as an excellent statue from the Goryeo Dynasty period. The surface of the statue had a coating which seemed to have been added later but in 2001, during the repair work, the coating was removed and the statue was restored in its original state.
