This festival aims at promoting the strong national spirit of patriotic loyalty and freedom protection of patriot martyrs who died in the fight against Japanese colonial rule at Yeongsan region, the origin of the first 3.1 Independence Movement within the province. It also holds demonstrations of our traditional folk customs, which include Yeongsan ox-head fight and Yeongsan tug-of-war to proliferate the excellence of our culture throughout the world. Even more, it contributes to the successful longevity of our traditional cultures and activity of folk cultures, and is held around every March 1 since 1961 to be promoted into a large festival for citizens’ harmony.
