Bugok Hot Spring was first discovered in 1973. It was designated as a National Tourist and then as a Special Tourist Zone in 1973. To attract tourists and develop the region as the international hot spring city of the 21st century, the Bugok Hot Spring Festival started in 1994. The festival is held at the Bugok Hot Spring Special Tourist Zone every April and the visitors can enjoy various programs and events.
